Dicey,
120 bottles might get us through the Holidays! Wish I had a tunnel to France. Send me the names of good reasonably priced reds and I'll try to find them here. Good French here is high. California too.
More on City of Love...
She works hard in the studio. I was so amazed at the backing harmonies she accomplished on L'amour n'est rien...
I think City of love is at least equal to that if not better. It takes an enormous amount of time to work out the vocal into the musical melody, then add those complex harmonies. I may buy several more legit copies to help her offset the studio time.

I was surprised to learn (thanks to mfarmer.ru) that I Want you to Want Me is a cover of a 1979 song by Cheap Trick!
https://youtu.be/BJs_L7yq5qE

I don't like the original at all.
Except that the lead singer is cute, worth watching a couple of times with the sound off
Their song "Voices" is much more to my liking.

Mylene's performance is more pleasant, somewhat sublime, I think. Still, it's not among my favourites on the album.

Is it me or does she sing "I'll shine up the old red shoes" instead of the original "I'll shine up the old brown shoes"?

You're obviously not old enough to have been around when the original was released SM - back in the day it became a bit of a classic.
In the CD booklet it definitely says "brown shoes" - as for what she actually sings it could be either brown or red.

The "didn't I" part sounded very familiar, now I know why.

Thank you, now I'll prefer hearing "red shoes" - suits her better ;)

By the way, even if I had been old enough for that song when it was released, I'm not sure I would have heard it anyway, given where I lived. Of course, a lot of Western music did get through to us, but not on today's scale.

(A little funny trip down memory lane, not about Mylene):
Spoiler:
I remember as a child I had a soft vinyl disk with 2 of Amanda Lear's songs, one of them was "Fashion Pack" (that I liked) - I don't think it would have been released if those responsible knew what Studio 54 was and what was going on there ;)
At that time, Soviet editions of Western music had Russian translations on the sleeve; "Fashion Pack" was released as "Advertising Around Us" :)
I was a child and didn't speak English back then, but I remember wondering why there was a sound in the song as if someone was sniffling; turns out it was after the words "Rock stars sniffing"
Here's a performance of Fashion Pack that I love - the verve! the costumes! the dancing! Amanda!

So after having listened several times the entire album, I shall say that for me À rebours is the most thrilling of all. :P The music is simply magical and I really like the lyrics (or at least from what I've managed to understand from them :D).
La vie est bien…
Elle est de miel !
Quand elle s'acide de dynamite
Qui m'aime me suive !
